Area: Size 885 km (553mi) long, 145 - 241 km (91-151mi) wide, 147,181 sq. km in area.

Position 26 - 300 north latitude, 80 - 880 east longitude; on the Indian subcontinent bounded on the north by the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China, and on the west south and east by the Republic of India.

Language: Nepali is the national language, Devenagari the script. Altogether 26 languages are spoken.

Ethnic composition: Indo-Aryans and Caste Hindus, including brahmins, Chhetris, Tharus, Rajbhanshis, Tibeto - Burman, Limbu, Rai, Sherpa, Tamang, Gurung, Magar, Thakali, Newar, and Tibetan.

Flora In the lowlands, bamboo, sal, banyan, pipal, kapok, jacaranda, and broadeaf/deciduous jungle; in the middle hills, oak, rhododendron and coniferous forests; in high altitudes, fonifers, pines, birches, junipers, first, cedars, and rhododendron.

Fauna Nearly 900 bird species, resident and migratory, Lowlands mammals; rhinoceros, Sloth bear, Tiger, Leopard, Bison, Several species Deer, Langur and Rhesus Monkeys, Boar and Mongoose also fresh water Dolphin, Gharal and Marsh Mugger Crocodiles, Mountain mammals, Black Beer, Snow Leopard Musk deer, Goral, Thar, Serow, Ibex, Marten, Red Panda and Yak Hill mammals, Deer, Bear wild cats and monkeys.

Nepal

Trekking Season

It is possible to trek at any time of year in Nepal. The main season however, is autumn (Oct. -Nov). It gets minimal rainfall and crystal-clear mountain views. Winter (Dec.-Feb) freezing above 4,000 meter and high passes may be snowbound; winter is an ideal season for a lower trek.

March-May marks the beginning of the spring trekking season, which peaks around mid-April.

Bungi Jump

The new adventure sport introduced in Nepal is Bungi jumping. The jump takes place in the gorge of Bhote Koshi River. The jump takes place from a bridge over 160 mtr. tropical gorge with the Bhote Koshi, one of the world's wildest rivers raging below.

Jungle Safari

The southern lowland known as the Terai is covered with dense tropical jungles teeming with diverse wildlife and exotic birds. Here one will find some of the most exciting safari destinations in the world.

Elephant back safari or four-wheel drive vehicle is provided to view wild animals in their natural habitat. Other thrills are canoe rides on the Jungle Rivers, nature walks, bird watching excursions, and village tours.

Among the 14 national parks and wildlife reserves in the Kingdom, the Royal Chitwan National Park (932 sq km) is the most popular safari destination. More than 43 species of animals are found in Chitwan. The endangered one-homed rhino, Royal Bengal tiger, Gharial crocodile, four-horned antelope, striped hyena, and the Gangetic dolphin are the main attractions of Chitwan.
